The Reading Symphony Junior String Orchestra (RSJSO) is a developmental ensemble for advanced fourth through eighth grade string students of Berks County and surrounding areas, serving as a training ground for the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO). Now in its nineteenth season, under the baton of Brian Mishler, the 80+ member orchestra performs at least four times annually, demonstrating a wide variety of repertoire ranging in styles and difficulty. The Reading Symphony Junior Strings Orchestra has received superior ratings for the past several years for their performances at the Music in the Park Festivals in Dorney Park.

Brian Mishler

Brian Mishler is the Director of Orchestral Studies at Exeter Senior High School and teaches Music Theory. He has performed as Assistant Principal Cellist of the Altoona Symphony, with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Reading Pops Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Schuylkill Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Alleghenies, Reading Civic Theater, Altoona Community Theater, and Dave Stahl Orchestra. He also enjoys playing in a variety of chamber ensembles. Brian graduated from Pennsylvania State University with highest honors and a B.S. in Music Education and a Cello Performance certificate. He additionally holds a Masters in Music degree from Northwestern University with an emphasis in Cello Performance and String Pedagogy.
