A Tax Tip from the RSO...

Congress Reinstates IRA Rollover for 2010 and 2011

When the 2010 Tax Relief Act was signed into law on December 17th, a top policy priority for orchestras and the broader nonprofit community was met with success.

The Tax Relief Act provides a broad tax package that includes reinstatement of the IRA Charitable Rollover giving incentive. This giving incentive is retroactively reinstated for gifts made during 2010, and extended throughout 2011. Also, gifts made by January 31, 2011 may be recognized as 2010 gifts for tax purposes (i.e., gifts made in January 2011 can be used to meet the 2010 minimum distribution requirement.)

The IRA rollover allows donors 70 1/2 and older to make up to $100,000 in charitable contributions directly from their individual retirement accounts (IRA).

More than 950 Friends of the RSO Facebook page get regular updates on symphony activities, behind-the-scenes pictures, and more. Want to join this lucky group? All you need to do is become a Friend on our Facebook page. Click here and follow the Facebook instructions. We're aiming for 1000 friends, sooner rather than later. (hint-pass this e-mail along to your our friends, with a suggestion that they join.)

Speaking of friends, one of the RSO's good friends is moving on to a new position. Ralia Vardaxis, the RSO's Vice President of Development and Community Relations, will be leaving the RSO staff on February 12th, for a new position in Development for Albright University, her Alma Mater. Ralia created the RSO's presence on Facebook, the Orchestra Zone program, the Maestro's Circle, the G Clef Generation Club, and was a major force behind other RSO activities. We wish her the best success-the RSO's loss is Albright's gain.
